The conference is scheduled to take place from 30 October to 4 November, 2011 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
IBA’s Annual Conference is the largest international gathering of lawyers and bar associations in the world. On average, over 4,000 of the world’s top lawyers attend the week-long annual event, which features over 150 highly topical sessions covering a wide range of legal issues. The event is an opportunity for lawyers from around the world to meet and hear first-hand about legal developments in various jurisdictions.
The International Bar Association (IBA), established in 1947, is the world’s leading organisation of international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies.
In January last year, the London-headquartered IBA, in partnership with the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), announced the opening of its Middle East Office in Dubai. The IBA opened the new office as part of its global strategy of expanding its network of international offices to serve regions more fully and broaden contact with its members.
Mr. Fernando Pombo, IBA President, said: “The physical presence of an IBA office in the Middle East will enable us to better respond to the needs of our members there. The IBA Middle East Office is based at the heart of the Middle East’s business and financial community in the DIFC, the world’s fastest growing international financial centre.”
The IBA influences the development of international law reform and shapes the future of the legal profession throughout the world.
It has a membership of more than 35,000 individual lawyers and 197 bar associations and law societies spanning all continents. It has considerable expertise in providing assistance to the global legal community.
Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Vice Chairman of the UAE Central Bank, said: “Being selected as host for this prominent international event will further enhance the UAE’s position on the global arena”.
HE added: “With the full support of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the DIFC team worked diligently with Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Al Tamimi and Company to secure this event for Dubai”.
