  The IAEE Study Mission to Dubai hosted by the Convention Bureau was an incredible trip from start to finish. The travel to and from Dubai on Emirates airline was top-notch. The itinerary included the perfect mix of business appointments, cultural experiences, fun and adventure. We were truly able to see all aspects of the multi-faceted city with hotel tours, a desert safari, a convention center tour, a trip to the cultural center, and a seaplane tour. The mixture of business and pleasure was absolutely correct setting, as it did, the right balance and maintaining high interest. The different hotel/event managers who gave their time so generously were, considered as a group, the acme of style, substance and commitment to their employers.   Seamlessly organized, highly productive and magical is how I would describe this study mission. The range of services provided by the Dubai Convention Centre and above all the ways in which projects are facilitated are truly impressive. I am grateful to Jerad Bachar and his team for giving me this opportunity to gain an insight into many facets of Dubai. I discovered that Dubai has a huge array of accommodation in all price brackets, an airport ranking 4th in the world in terms of passengers handled, a world-class highly flexible congress venue, fascinating sites for technical tours and a wealth of leisure activities. This mission has strengthened my view that Dubai is a vibrant, prime event venue that is strategically located from a geographical point of view and has much to offer.   I do not use the word excellent lightly - most of the Dubai hotel/dining/leisure experiences were indeed way beyond my expectations. The DCB study tour was expertly organised and gave participants time to garner information and feelings about each venue at a good but not frantic pace. This was truly a wonderful experience and I came away firmly in the belief that Dubai offered a great deal to conference organisers and their delegates. One thing did occur to me - in the early stages of being transported around Dubai it might have been helpful to have a Bureau guide explaining the locations and landmarks as one passed through or by them. Much passed by without me knowing quite what it was. Nevertheless, I am truly converted into a fan of Dubai as a result of the DCB tour.

  On a personal note, I would to thank Abdulla for his assistance over this past week in both developing a detailed itinerary, but more importantly seeking out other key people when they were brought to his attention during the meetings he attended with us.
